What Kind of Yoga?Tantric Hatha Yoga comes from the Himalayan tradition of Sri Vidya. The scope of this Yoga is a vast umbrella, a weave of the right hand path of Tantra, Patanjali (or classical Raja) Yoga, and Ayurveda. This style of Yoga includes other types of Yoga, such as Kundalini Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Yin, Restorative, Nidra, Power, Power, Bhakti, Kriya, traditional Hatha, Meditation, Pranayama, Mudra, and more.
The underlying philosophy is that Yoga is Medicine. When we understand ourselves and what we need, and understand the specific quality that each practice yields, we can do the right practice in the right way at the right time to support ourselves. |
What to Practice
The scope of Yoga is much larger than most people realize - Yoga is not limited to the asanas / poses in Yoga classes! The "what" you will be guided to practice may include any or all of the following: Asana (Yoga poses), meditation, systematic relaxation, Pranayama and breathing practices, visualization, chanting, sounding, devotional, prayerful practices, subtle body practices, and/ or healing practices for oneself or others. Practices are given specifically to match your needs.
How to Practice
How you practice is very important. Trauma-informed practice begins with relating. In class, you are invited to notice, breathe, attune with yourself, and make choices that are appropriate for you. Nothing is imposed, and everything is optional. You are invited to receive the invitation, and make the choice to participate, adjust, make a shift, or simply not participate in that activity, expanding capacity for self-respect, inner listening, choosing and relating within. One of the beauties of practice is that the quality you bring into your practice is the quality you will expand in your body, mind and life.
Inspired by Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, you are invited to approach your practice with steadiness and sweet ease, versus straining, struggling, and shutting down your body, mind and energy. This approach creates strength at every level of your system and supports integration, balance, and pleasure-full joy. As these attitudes become grounded in you through your practice, you not only create a new, positive habit, you literally change your body, nervous system, and brain and discover a newly emerging you, who is increasingly strong, balanced and naturally joyful.
Bringing playful exploration and curiosity to your practice supports you to befriend yourself and life itself so that you open to the touch of inspiration and the divine. Play is a gateway to connection and expression of the freshly emerging, evolutionary Self.
