Classical Yoga presents two categories for reality: that which is changing and that which doesn’t change. The Self, known as Atman, Jiva Atman, Purusha, is unchanging. Everything else changes, including our bodies, breath, relationships, day into night and night into day, seasons, years, and environmental changes. We suffer when we get the two confused and expect something in the material world to remain unchanged.
In other words, skillfully directed attention determines our experience in life and relationships.
Using the powerful gift of attention skillfully involves the choice of where to place attention and how to place attention. Placing attention where and how we choose is a great freedom and power we have as human beings, and both the where and the how determine our experience. The ability to place attention where and how we choose is the foundation for being creative in our lives vs. being a victim of life. Focused, loving, sustained attention is powerful, creative, and even healing.
And, when we align with the consciousness coming through us, we tap into the creative and spiritual power of the universe, which we can bring to our experiences and relationships in the world to enhance our lives. What a gift!
